Gold Sure Start Developmental Programme for 2–3 Year Olds

Gold Sure Start delivers the Sure Start Developmental Programme for 2–3 Year Olds, a government?funded early learning programme provided at no cost to parents. The programme supports children in their pre?preschool year, focusing on learning through play, early social development and strengthening the parent–child relationship.

 Aim of the Programme

The programme recognises that parents are a child’s primary educators and aims to:

Support children to reach their full developmental potential

Build confidence, independence and social skills

Promote early communication and language development

Provide quality early learning experiences in a child?centred, nurturing environment

 What Children Experience

Children take part in a wide range of developmental play, including:

 Sensory Play- Using natural and household materials to explore textures, build curiosity and support emotional regulation.

Early Learning Play

Activities that support:

Social development

Imaginative play

Early problem?solving

Fine and gross motor development

Holistic Approach

Staff focus on the needs of each individual child in a safe, warm and supportive environment.

Support for Parents

Parents remain central to the programme. The approach supports families by:

Recognising parents as first educators

Encouraging involvement through “Stay & Play” opportunities

Providing regular communication and updates

Offering guidance and additional support from the wider Sure Start team

Programmes include home visits each term and a stay and play each month.

 Eligibility

To be eligible for the programme, a child must:

Be registered with Gold Sure Start

Live within a Sure Start ward area

Be in their pre?preschool year (age 2 on or before 1 July prior to starting in September)
